Nancy Wilson, a jazz singer and three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Chillicothe, Ohio 20 February 1937, to Olden Wilson, an ironworker. had been employed for a considerable time as housekeeper. Nancy was the sixth of seven children. Nancy was a child who listened to records from her father as well as his passion for music. She already knew she would become a performer at the age of 4 years old. She developed her talent by singing in the choir at church. After high school the singer began appearing frequently in Skyline Melodies. She was fifteen when she won the television talent show. It was at that time that she began to work in night clubs around the at the same time. Nancy quit Central State University in Ohio after matriculating for an entire year. In 1956 she released her first album with Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band. They performed together from 1956 through 1958. Guess Who? Her albums were a hit and Capitol issued 5 Nancy Wilson albums in two years. Adderley helped her move away from R&B in favor of jazz and torch song. Nancy Wilson's 1962 collaboration with Cannonball Adderley propelled her to the top of the charts, and in 1963 she scored her debut hit Tell Me the Truth. It was this performance that brought her to the stage in the New York Coconut Grove in 1963, America's most popular nightclub.
