Nancy Wilson and Maisie Richardson

The Jazz musician Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born on February 20, 1937, in the city of Chillicothe, Ohio. Her parents were ironworker Olden Wilson and his wife Lillian Ryan who worked as a domestic servant. Nancy Wilson was the only born child at the age of 6. Nancy was inspired by her father's musical tastes and the records that were played in her family home. At the age of four, Nancy was aware that she wanted to be an artist. She began to develop her talent by participating in choirs of the church. She won a TV-talent show at the age of 15 and started performing regularly on the tv program Skyline Melodies while still in high school. At the same age she started working in nightclubs. Nancy completed high school at 17 and attended the Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a full year. She then dropped out to pursue a job as professional musician. In 1956 she released her first album with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. The group toured with Rusty Bryant throughout 1956 until 1958. Nancy began her recording career with Dot Records in 1956, while with the group. Cannonball told her she should make the move to New York and go to The Big Town to continue her career. The agent of Adderley heard about her at The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she signed. Within a month after her arrival in New York City. Agent Adderley signed her to Capitol in the year 1960. The year she made her debut was the same year. Guess Who I Stopped Today. Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. The first was focused on R&B and then, with Adderley's influence, she began to embrace jazz. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley joined forces in 1962 and helped push her up in the chart. The year 1963 was when she scored her greatest success through Tell Me the Truth. Following that year, she was asked to perform at the New York's Coconut Grove, the most famous club in America.
