Nancy Wilson (jazz singer) was born to Olden Wilson who was an ironworker in Chillicothe on February 20, 1937. She was the daughter of Lillian Ryan worked as a household servant. Nancy Wilson was youngest child of six. Nancy grew up listening to records from her father as well as his passion for music. When she was just 4years old, Nancy was aware her destiny was to be a singer. She was able to develop her talents when she sang in the choir of her church. She recorded her first record with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band in 1956. The group was on tour from 1956 until 1958. Nancy began her recording career with Dot Records in 1956, as part of the group. Cannonball addederley recommended that she relocate into New York for her career after which she moved into The Big Town. Within one month, she got a gig singing in The Blue Morocco Night Club situated on Boston Road in The Bronx where Adderley's agent heard her and signed her. Her debut on the recording stage came in 1960 with a single after he obtained an agreement with Capitol records. Guess whom I saw this morning. Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. Adderley encouraged her to shift away from R&B to music that was more jazz-based and torch songs. This performance brought her to the stage at the New York Coconut Grove in 1963, America's most popular nightclub.
