Jazz musician Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award-winner was born on February 20, 1937, in the city of Chillicothe, Ohio. Her parents were ironworker Olden Wilson, and former Lillian Ryan who worked as domestic helper. Nancy was the first out of six kids. The passion for music that her father had and his collection of records in the family room were an enormous influence on Nancy as a young girl. She already knew she would be a singer by the time she was just four years old. She began developing her talents by participating in the church choir. She made her first recording with the Rusty Bryants Carolyn Club Big Band, with whom she performed between 1956 and 1958. Nancy recorded her first album through Dot Records during the time she was with the group. Cannonball told her she should relocate into New York and go to The Big Town to further her career. Within a month she got an offer to sing in The Blue Morocco Night Club located on Boston Road in The Bronx the place where her agent heard her, and she was signed. Her records were successful and Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson albums in two years. Following the influence of Adderley she shifted her focus her focus from R&B towards jazz.
